Inflatable costumes

Inflatables solve one specific problem: how to build a three-metre character that a single performer can wear all day. The volume comes from air rather than fabric, so the silhouette is enormous while the weight stays manageable.

11 acts in this selection

They are at their best outdoors and on the move — parades, festivals, openings, markets — where a large silhouette has sky behind it. Octopus exists at ground level and on stilts, Trio Butterfly and Trolls Butterfly are built to work as a group, and Chilly Penguin and Snowman are the winter version of the same idea.

What to plan for: the costume is kept inflated by a battery-powered blower that runs continuously, and strong wind pushes it like a sail. In a storm we move them indoors or swap in a compact format. Otherwise they are among the most comfortable costumes we have for a long day on your feet.

They get booked in groups more often than solo, because three large silhouettes moving together read from across a square in a way one never will. Tell us the length of the route and we will suggest the number of performers.
